The small, cosy atmosphere of Arta has largely influenced the way dining is conducted in this Northeast Mallorcan village. Here you can dine casually in the heart of nature, without the feeling of being rushed. The food that is prepared in this region is rustic and comes largely from local produce and that of neighbouring villages. Because of the larger than normal German population who flock to these parts, the cuisine is influenced slightly to draw a mild focus to barbequed local sausages such as sobrassada, llonganisses and botifarrons.

Arta is also an ideal base for excursions to nearby villages. To the east is Cala Ratjada, a former fishing hamlet with a breathtaking coastline. Here, seafront bars and good fish restaurants abound. To the South East of Arta, you will find the legendary Arta Caves an alluring honeycomb of caverns which open out to the Capdepera east coast.

Palma is also becoming known for its chic boutique hotels. One of the best is the Hotel Tres, half 16-th century palazzo, half modern build, the two sides separated by a courtyard that's sheltered by a towering 100-year-old palm tree. The roof terrace, with its 360-degree views, is an ideal spot to see the sun go down behind the mountains and watch the boats in the harbour.
