Personal Safety
The crime rate on Mallorca is very low, but it never hurts nonetheless to exercise general safety precautions while traveling. These include:
• Be aware of pickpockets in crowded places
• Utilise your hotel safe and don't carry excessive cash
• Keep your passport in a safe place
• Be wary of your surroundings especially in lonely dark alleys at night
Should you ever need police assistance, you may call 1091 from any public phone booth. The Mallorcan word for police station is ‘la comisaria' should you need to ask for one.
Health
Insurance
Nationals of EU and selected countries are eligible for medical treatment on Mallorca. Should you not fall into this category, it is always advisable to have some form of travel insurance while traveling.
Dental Services
Almost all dental practices on Mallorca are private practices, and hence are not covered by your EU card.
Sun Advice
The sunniest (and hottest) months are July and August. With average temperatures reaching 29ºC , and an average of 11 hours sun a day, it is important that you stay hydrated, and seek shelter in the shade to avoid heat stroke. A good sun block is also advisable to avoid skin damage.
Drugs and Medicines
Prescription and non-prescription drugs and medicines are available from pharmacies distringuished by a large a green cross.
Safe Water
Although tap water is safe for consumption on Mallorca, it is highly chlorinated and may have a strong taste to it. Mineral water is very affordable on Mallorca and available in two forms: con gaz (carbonated) and sin gaz (still).
