Key Phrases

On Mallorca, the language that you will most commonly hear spoken on the street is Mallorqui, a local dialect of Catalan. The Mallorqui language is also sometimes referred to as Balear or Balearic, even though the dialects are different in each island and in each village.

Typically, young Majorcans are bilingual in Catalan and Spanish, with some knowledge of English or German as a foreign language, especially due to the large number of tourists and foreign residents on the island. Below is a list of words that may come in useful on your visit to Mallorca.
