Mallorca has two major railway lines running out of Placa d'Espanya in Palma. The first track takes a scenic route through the Sierra de Tramuntana mountains to the town of Soller. Running since 1912, the Palma-Soller train is one of tourist highlights on Mallorca, and highly recommended if it is your first time on the island.
The other major train route is less scenic and runs north to Inca where it branches to Sa Pobla and Manacor. The train that runs to Inca is locally refered to as "the Leather Express" for the reason that many passengers are on board to buy inexpensive leather goods at Inca which is infamous for its leather goods and Thursday market.
