Existing on the northern most part of Mallorca where the tip of the Tramuntana mountains dip into the Mediterranean, Formentor offers sweeping views of steep jagged cliffs and blue azure water. Crowning the top of this peninsula at the Cap de Formentor is a stunning lighthouse perched on the cliff side, accessible via a narrow footpath.

Formentor is home to the Formentor Hotel, an exclusive luxury hotel that has housed the likes of Winston Churchill, Audrey Hepburn, Laurence Olivier, the Duke of Windsor, Gary Cooper and Ava Gardner. Near by the hotel is Platja de Formentor, an idyllic, once private, little beach which has now been open to the public.


For ecological enthusiasts, the area surrounding the Formentor Peninsula is a wildlife protected area and the odd rock formations by the sea is famous for nesting seabirds. Among the wildlife you'll find in this area are black kites, bee-eaters, Audouin's Gull., black vultures, booted eagles, honey buzzards, and the Eleanora falcon, a rare bird of prey on Mallorca.
