S'Albufera Nature Park

S'Albufera Nature Park on Mallorca is a nature lover's paradise and the most important wetland reserve in the Balearics. Formerly a lagoon separated from the sea by a belt of dunes, S'Albufera Nature Park extends over 1,700 hectares of marshland and covers parts of the municipalities of Alcudia, Sa Pobla and Muro.

The basis of S´Albufera´s ecological richness is water, which provides favourable conditions for a wide variety of vegetation growth. The range of plant species gives cover and food to a multitude of animals, forming an ecosystem which supports the greatest biodiversity of any wildlife reserve in the Balearics.

Within the pages of this book, you will learn that the decline of the species has been attributed to the impacts of introduced species such as the viperine snake (Natrix maura) and green frog (Rana perezi), and toads may be surviving only in areas that are suboptimal for these predators.
