Palma to Soller Train

The vintage wooden train that runs between Palma de Mallorca and Soller is one of Europe's great little railways and is not to be missed if you are visiting Mallorca. Running since 1912 and appointed with mahogany panels and brass finishings, the Soller train from Palma de Mallorca offers more than a trip back into history. Passengers who choose to hop on board this vintage express will be taken for a ride through Mallorca's lush countryside and quaint hillside towns, arriving in a lush valley of orange groves between the mountains and the sea.

As pull away from the platform, the Soller train hisses, whistles and clatters through Palma's city streets into its ramshackle outskirts. As you continue to journey away from Palma de Mallorca across rolling plains, you will eventually enter the Sierra de Alfabia range and find yourself going through orange groves, back gardens and ochards.

On your train ride to Soller, you will pass many quaint and picturesque Mallorcan towns, one of which would be Bunyola, one of the few untouched villages here on Mallorca. Right after Bunyola, you will come to the first of 13 tunnels on the way to Soller. Going through the tunnels on the way to Soller is a surreal experience as the use of heavy tungsten lights in the tunnels throws the trains interior into shades of dark amber.

The Soller trains on Mallorca are not air conditioned but the windows on the train can be lowered. The sensation of cool mountain breeze against your face as you wind through the lush Mallorcan countryside makes for a pleasant ride that you will remember for a long time.

Soller town center is the coastal town of Soller Railway. Sitting by a marina, and flanked cliffs, Puerto de Soller offers seaside cafes, bars, sandy beaches and a lighthouse on each side of the bay entrance.
