Joan Miro Foundation

Joan Miro, the famous painter, sculptor and ceramist hailing from Barcelona, had always expressed contempt for conventional painting methods and his desire to "kill", "murder", or "rape" them in favor of more contemporary means of expression.

Before his death in Palma, Mallorca on the Christmas of 1983, Joan Miro and his wife Pilar Juncosa, formed the The Pilar i Joan Miró a Mallorca Foundation. Their purpose was to provide an artistic and cultural center on Mallorca where the most advanced concepts and ideas in contemporary art  could live and grow. This center was to serve as a meeting point for artists, writers, and musicians to exchange ideas, reflect on things and work together.

In total, Joan Miro and Pilar Juncosa had donated four workshops on Mallorca from which he worked.
