Nestled in an enclave of the Tramountana mountains, the Alfabia Gardens are a legacy of the Moorish talent for irrigation and landscaping. Today, the Alfabia Gardens are a popular destination on Mallorca to those who like to get away from the regular tourist fare. Framed by the breathtaking mountains in the background, the Alfabia Gardens merges subtly with its surroundings, and it is hard to tell where the garden ends and where the forests begins. The gardens themselves are beautifully manicured and feature water fountains, lily ponds, shady walkways lined by palms and bamboo groves.
The entrance to the Alfabia Gardens is exquisite and the most outstanding of the buildings on this estate is its main Baroque facade. This mansion boasts balconies with unprecedented views that encapsulate the magnificence of this location. Within the house you will find a collection of paintings, antique furniture and a library shelving printed work dating back to the 16th century. Within the garden complex itself, cascaded water channels run parallel with an impressive stone staircase, creating the sound of gently forming water. There is also a stunning 72 column pergola featuring 24 gargoyles from which water flows, forming a transparent arched passage way. Over the years, more gardens have been introduced to the Alfabia Garden complex. In 1954, the Alfabia Gardens on Mallorca were declared historic-artistic gardens.
