Hidden amongst the small secret streets that surround the Cathedral in Palma is a treasure that has been left behind from long ago. Located within a courtyard of cactus, palm trees and orange trees, the 10th century Arab Baths are one of the few remaining examples of Moorish architecture on Mallorca.

The building itself consists of a barrel-vaulted roof supported by twelve pillars. Each pillar is unique, suggesting that they had been constructed from the ruins of numerous Roman buildings. The dome which is the shape of a half orange, features 25 circular shafts at the top which allow sunlight to stream into the room.


Little remains today of the ancient Moorish city of Medina Mayurqa, and the Arab Baths are one of the few windows into the personality and atmosphere of that ancient city
